Aug 23, 2026 - Guard Your Heart
What if the most important thing we could do for our spiritual lives had nothing to do with outward behavior, but everything to do with what happens on the inside? Proverbs 4:23 draws a striking picture for us: the heart is like a spring, a fountain from which the entirety of our lives flows. Just as ancient communities would go to extraordinary lengths to protect their water supply from contamination or destruction, we are called to guard our inner lives with the same fierce intentionality. This message walks us through three specific dangers that threaten the purity of that fountain: impure thoughts, misplaced affections, and the slow poison of bitterness. Each of these, left unchecked, has the power to corrupt the very source from which our decisions, relationships, and spiritual vitality flow. What makes this teaching so compelling is its insistence that real transformation does not begin with changing our actions. It begins with changing what we allow to take root in our hearts. If we want our lives to look different on the outside, we have to be willing to do the harder, less visible work of tending to what is happening on the inside.
