Sep 6, 2026 - The Priority of His Presence

Pr. Daniel Enriquez

What if the greatest thing God could offer us was not a destination, but His own company on the journey? That is the radical question at the heart of Exodus 33, where Moses stands at one of the most pivotal crossroads in Israel's history. God is ready to deliver on His promise -- the land flowing with milk and honey is within reach -- but He declares that His presence will not go with the people. And Moses, rather than rushing toward the prize, stops everything and says he would rather remain in the desert than take a single step toward the promised land without God. This sermon draws us into that same choice. We are reminded that the presence of God is not a bonus feature of the Christian life -- it is the central reality that makes everything else meaningful. Through the imagery of the cloud by day and the fire by night, we see how God made Himself tangible and knowable to His people, leading them, protecting them, and marking them as His own. The deeper invitation here is not just to know about God through theology or tradition, but to actually experience Him -- the way Moses did, face to face, as one speaks with a friend. That kind of knowing transforms us, sustains us, and sets us apart in a world that is searching not for more explanations about God, but for a genuine demonstration of His presence.
