Sep 27, 2026 - You Were Made to Be Free

Pr. Daniel Enriquez

What does it truly mean to be free? In a culture that prizes personal liberty above almost everything else, we might assume we already have the answer. But John 8:34-46 challenges that assumption at its core. Jesus draws a sharp and sobering line between the freedom we celebrate and the freedom we actually need. Everyone who commits sin, He says, is a slave to sin. That is not a comfortable truth, but it is a liberating one, because a problem we can name is a problem we can bring to God. This message walks us through the stunning parallel between Israel's exodus from Egypt and our own spiritual deliverance. Just as God brought His people out of physical bondage, Colossians 1:13 tells us He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of His beloved Son. The Jubilee imagery woven through Jesus's mission announcement in Luke 4 adds another layer of richness: debts canceled, captives released, inheritance restored. We are still living in that favorable year of the Lord. The promise is not that temptation vanishes overnight, but that sin no longer holds the title deed to our lives. Romans 6 makes it plain that sin shall not be master over us. That declaration is not wishful thinking. It is a statement of spiritual reality for everyone who has been born again. If we have been wondering why our faith feels more like a burden than a liberation, this message invites us to reconsider what freedom in Christ actually looks like and to lay hold of it fully.
